Things to do

There is some much to do in Côtes-d’Armor that one visit is never enough. We have listed a few of the things that will be of interest and if that doesn’t capture your imagination have a look at the gallery at the foot of the page.

Market Days Local Attractions Surfing
Market Days

Market Days

What can we say about markets, they are one of the highlights of a French holiday, miss them and you will be poorer for it! There is a street market every day of the week in the local villages.

There is a Sunday market in Plestin where you can buy some delicious local delicacies such as delicious local cheeses, crepes, spit roasted chicken, and the freshest vegetables.

Important note for new Sunday arrivals

Plestin market finishes at 13.00 hr and there are no shops open in the afternoon not even the local supermarket.

Local Attractions

Tregastel

There are alot of different types of attractions from the adrenaline tree top scramble to travelling on the Paimpol steam train. Here is a list of a few favourites:

The Village Gaulois

The Gallic Village in Pleumeur-Bodou near Cosmopolis is visited by about 80,000 people every year. Run by 5 permanent workers, it welcomes more than 100 volunteers each summer. The Village belongs to a non-profit making organisation, M.E.E.M. (du Monde des Enfants aux Enfants du Monde). It is a unique reconstitution of a Gallic setting and way of life. There you can enjoy numerous activities, eat pancakes and have a drink. Inside the village, everything is paid with the local currency. Our tip, take a torch for the grotto.

Armoripark

Enjoy a relaxing day at Armoripark in a flowery wildlife environment, full of water and open-air activities. Has indoor and outdoor leisure pool centre and open-air activities – bowling, trampolines, pedalos, bobsleigh ride, mini golf and water-powered roundabout.

Tree-top adventure park

Based in the heart of Finnestre near Carhaix provides a fun day out for all the family in woodlands in a safe secure environment an exciting day out for children of all ages.

Chateau de Taureau

A Napoleonic fort in the bay of Morlaix built to protect the port during the Napoleonic war.Day trips to visit the fort available from Port de Diben ( Plouganou ).

Steam train

Great for a day out with the family. The steam trains Paimpol to Pontrieux. Phone to find the times for the day (Téléphone : 02 96 205 206)

Cider making farm & Breton whisky

An opportunity to taste locally produced cider – Brittany is famous for it. Looking for a different type of taste then you could visit the distillery at Lannion where they make Breton whisky.

Local sailing school

Located at St Efflam a short distance from Coat Allis you can hire kayaks, sailing yachts including Hobi Cats, Catamarans, Kite Boards or paddle arbout in a kayak or stand up paddle board.

Golf

Interested in playing golf? There is an excellent 18 hole course at St Samson or a smaller 9 hole course at Carantec both with superb sea views and only less than a 25 minute drive away.

Surfing

Surfing, Body BoardingPors Ar Villec (Locquirec)

‘Porza’ is the most consistent spot in the laid-back surf area of Locquirec. Fast and hollow over the sand-covered reef when the NW swell hits or clean little longboard peelers when small and groomed by any S wind.

It’s always crowded here and rocks pop up even on high tide. Heading west are some good solid shories at Sables Blancs, which also has a sucky outside reef churning out rights at low tide on big swells. The next few bays include Moulin de la Rive and Poul Rodou, both well sheltered from SW winds.

Surfing

Perros Guirec

Perros Guirec locals enjoy a hollow beachbreak right in the city during westerly storms, thanks to it’s tucked-in, northeast-facing position. An outside reef peak will rear up some rights in big swells. The pocket beach to the east holds the inconsistent and often crowded righthander of Pors Nevez over rock and sand, where more S in the wind and low to mid tide is needed.

Access from here to the Seven Isles bird sanctuary and the pink granite cliffs towards Ploumanac’h. Surf shop and all city beach facilities.

Le Dossen

A long sandy beach so exposed to the wind that a sail or kite is recommended. Less sloppy by the river, which works at lower tides or head to the multitude of peaks in the middle for high tide rollers perfect for longboarding and beginners.

Spreads the weekend crowd as easily as the W wind blows it to pieces. Shortboarders should go to l’Ile de Sieck just in front for a hollow, hardcore right reef. Land yachting hotspot!

La Torche

Seminal Brittany surfspot with ultra-consistent, walled-up peak breaking beside rocky headland. Shorter but hollower rights break into the rip known as the elevator which flows straight to the peak. Lefts speed down the beach, but paddle back can be gruelling, so think about walking around to the rip. Many more breaks further north along beach at Tronoën or Penhors and mellow rights at the La Torche point at the end of Audierne Bay.

Ultra-crowded with all surf craft on weekends. Massive parking and all the facilities for a family day at the beach.
